Human rights worst in the last 20 years

Human rights violations in Iran are now as bad as at any time in the past 20 years, Amnesty International has said in a new report on the aftermath of last June’s presidential election. (Read the whole article here)

Defy torture

Amnesty International has released another short anti-torture ad and asks everybody to join Amnesty to defy torture. The advertisement is really effective. So if you’re not a member of Amnesty International after watching the video think of Joining Amnesty international with as few as 2 Euro’s a month and help defying torture.

President Obama’s challenge: the first 100 day’s

Finally we can call him president Obama. The first 100 days will not be easy for him as there are a lot of challenges on the way.
Amnesty international in a campaign called “100 days”, is asking Obama to meet the challenge and take concrete steps to counter terror with justice in his first 100 days in office. It seems that he is taking steps as he has stopped all the Guantanamo trials to review the tribunal process as one of his first official acts in the white house.

Gaza Crisis: Stop the killing of innocent civilians

Amnesty international UK is urging the UK Government to take a lead and call for an immediate, comprehensive humanitarian truce to allow desperately needed humanitarian assistance to the beleaguered civilian population, evacuation of the wounded and safe refuge for civilians wishing to flee the conflict zone. With 100 days to go until the Beijing Olympics, Amnesty International today (30 April) launched the first in a series of four hard-hitting animated films highlighting human rights abuses linked to the Chinese authorities’ hosting of the Games, in particular the risks of peacefully protesting in China. A while ago I wrote about Amnesty Internationals campaign against Torture, Unsubscribe-Me. Amnesty is now launching a series of short effective films in order to spread the human rights message.
First add of these series is against waterboarding, a method that is used by the CIA in the “war against terror”. This is ‘The film the CIA doesn’t want you to see’. This film will be on 50 UK cinema screens from 5th of May.

2008 is the 60^th anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human rights.The Elders say that the government have been signing this declaration for the past 60 years but now you have the chance to sign it in Every Human Has Rights website. You can read a plain language version of the declaration in this homepage and be one of those who sign and join this campaign.
The Hub, the media site specialized for human rights, is also working with Every Human Has Rights campaign to build a global digital data bank of human rights stories, in text, audio and video.
